Not that it's a surprise or anything, but I would have been a dismal failure as a 1930s wife, at least according to this test that is supposedly from a real "marital checklist" of good and bad traits for wives. (Thanks to evil_macaroni for the link.)

Oh, I agree with you, on that aspect and on a great many other fronts. There's a long way still to go, but sometimes I think we also need to reflect on how far we have come, even though the gains have been distressingly uneven, and have primarily benefited those who were already better off in many ways - middle and upper class white women in North America and Western Europe.

I find it encouraging to remember that we have accomplished some change. It makes it - perhaps not easier, but more possible to sustain - the fight when one can see some indication that the struggle has had some impact.
