Not all Aboriginal peoples living in Canada identify themselves as a nation or with a nation. Specifically, the Métis and the Inuit don't refer to themselves as First Nations people, but they are considered Aboriginal peoples.
The term First Nations does not have a legal definition, as do the terms Aboriginal, Indian, Métis and Inuit, but it is the term that most of the people called Indian prefer to use in identifying themselves.
