Although I am no historian -- very far from it -- I agree with your rant. I have my own rants on how modern feminism and feminist paganism have set up their own myths on how things were in the Golden Age of goddess worship. Perfectly fine in a whole lot of ways as a myth, and very evocative, but I object to it being presented as The Truth.
What would be very interesting to read is a good, accurate (insofar as that is even possible) fictionalization of the life of Mary Magdalen.
