And another doodle


Hokusai's work also includes some incredible waterfalls which are also among my favourite art pieces, so when I started drawing last night, that's what was on my mind. Hence, a waterfall of my own. Yes, it's similar to one I drew earlier this month in composition, but what the heck.

I think that would definitely come from your love of Asian painting--I don't think that's a western style. I never thought about blank space around the work leaving room for the viewer's imagination to extend, merely as structurally setting off a piece, but that makes perfect sense. A glimpse through a keyhole.

Now that I've had some time to think about how I "use" the empty space around a landscape image, I think that it actually actually does - or can do - both things, setting the image off, and allowing the viewer to extend the image.
